　　教授世界历史，您认为中国和美国的课堂有什么区别?

　　Teach World History，Are there any differences between Chinese and American classrooms?

　　There are many, many, many differences. I think the most notable one is that American classes are discussion based. Students must discuss with the teacher about the topic during the class. If they do not, they might lose points for the day. It is okay to disagree with the teacher. Asking questions and challenging the teacher are the best ways that we learn in the USA. China would see this “challenging the teacher” as disrespectful. Chinese teachers fear this and I think they should embrace it. People are wrong and there is not way that someone can be right all the time.

　　有很多很多不同之处。我认为最值得注意的一点是，美国课堂是以讨论为基础的，学生必须在课堂上和老师讨论这个话题。如果他们不这样做，他们可能会失去当天的学分，可以各抒己见，积极回答。提问和挑战老师是我们在欧洲学习的最好方法。中国会认为这种“挑战老师”是不尊重的。而在国外恰恰相反，我认为他们开动脑筋，具有自己的见解是我非常欣赏的。

　　您觉得您的学生怎么样 ?

　　What do you think of your students?

　　They are really wonderful. They want to learn. If you can be with people who want to learn about world history，your job is gonna to be easier. And they are very hardworking. I had no heasitation to teach Chinese students world history. I just knew it would be a pleasure.

　　他们都特别好，很有上进心。在世界历史课堂上，如果我的学生都很好学，那么我的授课就会比较容易。并且他们很用功，教授中国学生世界历史知识，我丝毫不会有任何犹豫，因为我知道这会是一件非常开心的事。

　　你认为学生应该怎样学好世界历史?您会给他们怎样的建议呢?

　　As for you, what’s the factor that affects the participation of students in World history?What advice for them?

　　In the course of history teaching, how to stimulate interest is the best teacher, I do my best to give them topics that they will be interested in. Although history is a record of the past, the past was once as living as the present. Teachers should make the cold written history into living historical facts and try to improve student's interest in learning history.

　　About the advice，Oh, it’s a big one. I can give you some small tips.History has its own characteristics, that is, students need to master a lot of historical facts, form perceptual knowledge, and have more important time, characters and events to remember. Teachers should try to improve the immediacy of classroom teaching, such as the immediacy of blackboard writing design, classroom teaching content and so on, so that students are interested in learning history.Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We all have made mistakes.

　　在历史教学过程中,要尽量提高课堂教学的趣味性。历史虽然是对过去事物的记载,但过去事物如同今天的现实。教师要让冰冷的文字历史变成活生生的历史史实,充满想象力，努力提高他们学习历史的兴趣。

　　至于建议嘛，这是一个大问题，不过我可以给出一些小建议。历史学科有其自身的特点,就是需要学生掌握大量的史实,形成感性认识,同时有比较多的重要的时间、人物、事件需要记忆。老师要尽量提高课堂教学的直观性,比如板书设计的直观性、课堂教学内容 的直观性等等,使学生有兴趣学好历史。也千万不要害怕犯错，我们都会犯错，这没什么大不了。

　　在目前您感觉最有成就感的是哪件事或者那个阶段?

　　What is the most fulfilling thing or stage of your life right now?

　　Probably, I think every teacher will be happy to see the progress of students. I am always glad when our students have achieved a small or significant victory. I was very happy when I found that study had become an indispensable part of my student life..

　　大概，我想每个老师看到学生的进步都会非常高兴。在学生们取得小或重大胜利的时刻，我会替他们高兴，这是我们共同努力取得的成果。当我发现学习已经成为学生们生活中不可或缺的一部分时，我很欣慰。

　　你认为教师这一职业需要具备什么样的素质、技能和经验?

　　What qualities, skills and experience do you think a teacher should have?

　　A teacher should enjoy spending time with his or her students. If we take a genuine interested in our students’ academic needs, and if students feel respected and acknowledged, they will be motivated to learn.

　　老师应该理解和引导学生，如果我们对学生的学习需求真正感兴趣，以及使他们感受到被尊重和认可，他们就会有学习的动力。

　　教师，是促进学生成长的重要角色。传道、授业、解惑，是他们的职责，“桃李满天下”，是他们的荣耀。每一位教师对他们的学生都有着深深的期望，而Omar老师也不例外，他希望每一位学子都能实现他们的梦想，去获取更多的知识。
